- The Centre for infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CiSTUP) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) invites applications for an internship position to support the development of an integrated metro transit forecasting and decision-support tool.
  The final tool is intended to support scenario-based policy simulations and serve as a decision-support platform for transit agencies involved in metro planning, service design, and evaluation.
- General details about the internship:
  - Stipend: ₹15,000/month for bachelor’s students and ₹20,000/month for master’s students.
  - Certificate will be provided upon successful completion
  - Mode: In-person internship only. Candidates must arrange their own accommodation.
  - Work Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week). Preference will be given to immediate joiners and candidates available for longer durations.
  - Internship Focus: The selected intern will contribute to the design and development of the user interface and workflow of a research-based forecasting tool for public transport planning.
  - Opportunities & Expectations: Final-year master’s students may explore collaborative thesis-related work depending on performance and project alignment. Interns will work on an applied research project at the intersection of transportation, data science, visualization, and software development.
  - Preference will be given to recent graduates, final-year students, and those who can commit to a duration of 3 months or more.

- Education Background
  - Bachelor’s or Master’s in:
  - Computer Science / Information Technology / Data Science / Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
  - Or any other relevant discipline
- Roles and Responsibilities
  - Develop a user-friendly interface for an integrated metro transit forecasting tool.
  - Support integration of the interface with research models and backend workflows developed in Python or related analytical environments.
  - Design interactive components for visualizing:
  - - station-level boardings and alightings
  - - station-to-station OD ridership flows
  - - route choice patterns/station choice behaviour/access and egress mode shares
  - Participate in iterative design discussions to translate research requirements into a practical software tool.
  - Assist in testing, debugging, documentation, and improving the usability of the platform.
- Skillset
  - Experience in frontend development is required.
  - Proficiency in the following is expected:
  - - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  - - At least one interactive UI framework such as React, Vue, Qt/QML, Dash, Panel, or Streamlit
  - - Dashboard and data visualization libraries such as Plotly, D3.js, ECharts, or Observable Plot
  - - route choice patterns/station choice behaviour/access and egress mode shares
  - Familiarity with Python-based backend integration is required.
  - Experience with data visualization, especially for multivariate or spatial datasets, is required.
  - Knowledge of GIS and map-based visualization libraries such as Leaflet, Mapbox GL, Deck.gl, Kepler.gl, or Folium is preferred.
  - Familiarity with transit or mobility data formats (e.g., GTFS) is preferred.
  - Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  - Research-oriented mindset and willingness to work closely with an academic project are preferred.
  - Self-motivated and able to work independently.

- The Centre for infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CiSTUP) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) invites applications for an internship position in research assistance to support our ongoing projects and M Tech Programs. The selected candidate will be responsible for aiding research projects by reviewing literature and summarizing, assisting in drafting research reports and articles, and performing data analysis and simulation tasks.
- General details about the internship:
  - The stipend for students with/or pursuing a master’s degree is Rs. 20,000 a month. An internship certificate will be provided upon successful completion of the program.
  - Selected candidates will have to arrange their accommodation.
  - Candidates are expected to work 40 hours per week, and immediate joining will be given a preference.
  - Preference will be given to candidates who can join immediately and for a longer duration of time.
  - All internship positions are in-person only.
  - Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  - Final year master students are encouraged to apply and explore the opportunities in collaborative thesis work.
- Qualifications:
  - Education: Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering
  - Experience: Minimum 0-1 years of experience in research projects.
  - Knowledge of traffic and transportation data handling and statistical analysis, Hands-on VISSIM/SUMO experience, Publications in journals or conference papers are additional advantages.
  - Technical Skills: Technical writing, MS Word-PowerPoint-Excel, Data Analysis Tools,Python/MATLAB, VISSIM/SUMO.
  - Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Transportation Engineering Courses (Traffic Flow Theory, Transportation Planning, Traffic Safety and Management, Geometric Design).
  - Language Proficiency: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

  - Research-oriented background (preferred): Candidates with an interest in data-driven research, analysis, or academic insights will be given preference
- Skillset:
  - Experience with Natural Language Processing is mandatory.
  - Knowledge of machine learning concepts and hands on experience in libraries like Spacy, NLTK, markerpdf/PyMUPDF are a plus.
